Pitchapalooza & A Week of Literary Mayhem

It's coming to Craig and Prince of Wales Island beginning Thursday, August 16th and running through August 22nd. It's A WEEK OF LITERARY MAYHEM! Please join us at The Craig Public Library either here in person over through the Alaska OWL Project Video Conference Feed for THREE Alaska Statewide Pitchapaloozas with Book Doctors Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry!

Thursday, August 16th at 7pm -- FULL! Thank you!
Friday, August 17th at 3pm
Saturday, August 18th at 2pm

In addition to Arielle and David, The Craig Public Library will be hosting: Chris Baty, Founder and Emeritus Executive Director of The Office of Letters and Light, the parent Non-Profit of NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month; Grant Faulkner, Executive Director of The Office of Letters and Light, and Chris Angotti, Director of The Young Writers Program at The Office of Letters and Light! Not only are these three responsible for a program that pits 300,000 people world-wide against the blank page, they're excellent writing coaches who have agreed to make themselves available to anyone who wants to talk to them, bounce ideas off  them, and provide writing tips and more! Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry -- The Book Doctors

Arielle Eckstut is an agent-at-large at The Levine Greenberg Literary Agency, one of New York City's most respected and successful agencies. For 18 years, she has been helping hundreds of talented writers become published authors. Arielle is not only the author of seven books, but she is also a successful entrepreneur. She co-founded the iconic company, LittleMissMatched, and grew it from a tiny operation into a leading national brand, which grossed over $30 million in retail sales last year, and now has stores from coast to coast, everywhere from Disneyland to Disney World to Fifth Avenue in New York City.
David Henry Sterry is the author of 12 books on a wide variety of subjects, from memoir, to YA novel, to anthology, to reference. His most recent book appeared on the cover of the Sunday New York Times Book Review. He is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, and his work has appeared everywhere from the San Francisco Chronicle to the London Times. His first memoir has been optioned by Showtime, and his recent anthology has been optioned by the co-creator of Friends. Before writing professionally, David was a comic and an actor, appearing in over 1,500 commercials and has worked with everyone from Michael Caine to Zippy the Chimp to Will Smith.


Chris Baty

Chris Baty founded National Novel Writing Month in 1999, and oversaw the growth of the writing challenge from 21 friends to more than 250,000 writers in 90 countries. NaNoWriMo provides a free, fun, creative writing adventure to thousands of participants every November. Chris is the author of No Plot? No Problem and co-author of the Ready, Set, Novel workbook. Chris also works as a freelace journalist, and his writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Believer, and Lonely Planet guidebooks. He holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.


Grant Faulkner

Grant Faulkner is the Executive Director of The Office of Letters and Light. He received his B.A. in English from Grinnell College and his M.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. His work has appeared in such journals as The Southwest Review, Poets & Writers, The Rumpus, Gargoyle, and The Berkeley Fiction Review. He's the founder and editor of the lit journal 100 Word Story and writes essays and book reviews for a number of publications and blogs. He has also been a writing teacher at the university level, and worked at the National Writing Project for years to improve the teaching of writing in the nation's schools.


Chris Angotti

Chris Angotti is The Young Writers Program Director for The Office of Letters and Light. Chris received his M.A. in English education from Teachers College at Columbia University, and spent three years teaching middle and high school students in New York City. In addition to developing skills in curriculum, assessment, and differentiation during this time, he realized the potential of creative writing as a tool for adolescent enrichment and achievement. After relocating to the Bay Area, Chris decided to enter the world of education nonprofits. He is most interested in programs and organizations that facilitate student success through creative, non-traditional methods.
